What is Oral Surgery?Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the specialty of dental practice that deals with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the mouth, jaws, face and related structures. This includes the removal of impacted and decayed teeth, placement of dental implants, biopsy and removal of cysts and tumors of the mouth and jaws, treatment of facial trauma and reconstructive jaw surgery. What does maxillofacial mean? "Maxillofacial" refers to the face and jaws, while "Oral" refers to the mouth. What does it mean to be Board Certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery? Dr. Trevisani is a Board Certified Oral Surgeon. This means that Dr. Trevisani has graduated from an accredited dental school and has completed an approved oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program. The dental school education and subsequent residency program typically take around thirteen years to complete. The American Dental Association recognizes the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as the specialty board for oral and maxillofacial surgery. The board reviews all applicants for board certification, and administers the certification examination. Dr. Trevisani had to pass a written qualifying examination, as well as a meticulous oral certifying examination to become board certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Being a Diplomate, Dr. Trevisani maintains his current competence through ongoing continuing education. Why Choose Us? Not only does it take state of the art panoramic x-ray images, it is also an indispensable tool for our dental implant cases. We also offer three locations around Central Florida to ensure a convenient location for virtually all residents of the region.
